From Passion to Partnership: The Story of MA Sports Horses and Northfield Stables

After graduating from university with a sport degree it wasn’t long before Malcolm decided to run his own equestrian business. In 2006 MA Sports Horses was formed when Malcolm purchased a further 3 horses to produce and sell alongside his two competition horses. In late 2007, MA Sports Horses moved into is current yard at Northfield Stables. At the time this represented a major investment as the property was just a field with no fencing.

Northfield Stables has since evolved into a high-quality training facility for competitive riders. After meeting Alicia, a fellow graduate with a passion for show jumping, their shared vision led to a partnership that built the business as it operates today. Together, Malcolm and Alicia focus on delivering exceptional care and attention to detail, essential to the smooth running of the yard.

MA Sports Horses has also supported the training of apprentices through a partnership with Haddon Training, many of whom have gone on to manage their own facilities. The yard’s excellent facilities and services have attracted a variety of liveries, ranging from first-time horse owners to aspiring professionals, a testament to the quality of Northfield Stables.

Malcolm and Alicia regularly attend both local and multi-day shows with their own horses and clients’ horses, making show days a team effort for everyone involved, whether competing in beginner or advanced classes. Over the years, they have produced numerous show-jumping horses, with many starting as unbroken. Recently, they have also bred foals, including those from their own successful competition horses.
